It is one of our goals here at LINC NT that everybody in the family sphere is reached, from the parents to their children as well.  We now have a network of parents that are currently attending Bible studies and have been not only improving in their personal lives but revitalizing their interaction with their spouses and children, and their dynamic as a family has changed dramatically.

In the midst of all this, we were looking for ways to reach the young people in these families more directly.  These kids are sitting at home, sometimes not doing much, and going through the teenage phase without much support from other solid teenagers or mentors to help them make good decisions.  We have one family that we are praying for where the son is refusing to go to school now.  In other words, it is our priority to reach these young people in the home, outside the school atmosphere,...

I was privileged a week ago to attend the national Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) convention in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This was an uplifting time that reminded me of the mission the Lord has for all of us.  In case you don’t know, LWML gives away around $1.8 million dollars every two years to missions by collecting mites.  Hearing different speakers who have received funding was very inspirational.  These are people who are on fire for God’s mission.

During her speech, LWML President Kay Kreklau reminded the women to “focus on missions, not meetings.”  I loved this statement.  So many times we get stuck in the “discussion” stage of mission.  It’s so much more comfortable there in our air-conditioning where everything is ideas and the disappointments haven’t happened yet.

For the past several years, I’ve been working on a Masters degree at Fuller Theological Seminary in Global Leadership.  I’ve been struck as I’ve studied with co-learners from places as disparate as Australia, Ethiopia, and rural Brazil how globalized our world has become.  In my current class on globalization and Christian mission, I’m researching the similarities between trends in globalization and in Christianity and looking at what implications they may have for Christian mission.  The truth is that having a solely local frame of view is becoming a thing of the past.  Even if you’re not actively communicating with people on multiple continents, you’re totally affected by globalizing trends.  Our world was shaken last month as a building in Bangladesh collapsed, killing over 1,100 people.  It’s very possible that some of the clothes...

Well, folks – this is it: my last blog post for LINC North Texas.  In a few days, after a fistful of parent nights, running around with kids and their parents, and blowing my whistle, I’ll be hanging up my many hats I wore over the past two years working here.  And while I’m ready to devote all of my waking hours now to being a full time student working towards my PhD in politics (about half way through now), I have to say that I’ll miss having all that hat hair.
